About us

Our story

Coffee arrived in Spain more than 250 years ago, an exotic product that from the start captivated the palates of the most discerning. However, it was in 1981 that the sector underwent a profound transformation. Until then, coffee imports were under a state monopoly: the government managed all the grain coming in and distributed the batches among the roasting companies according to the population of each region.

With the opening of the market and the liberalisation of trade, a range of new opportunities arose, allowing national and international companies to enter. In this context of change, Cafés La Caribeña was born in 1982 in the heart of Olula del Río, a small town in Almería where we began roasting and distributing coffee for the province's hospitality trade. This first chapter marked the start of a path full of commitment and love for good coffee.

Three stages

From Olula del Río to all of Spain

  1. 1982

The Beginning in Olula del Río

With humility and a clear focus on quality, we opened our first roasting plant. For more than a decade, we were part of the bars and cafés of Almería, bringing the unmistakable aroma and flavour of a good coffee. We stayed in Olula del Río until 1995, the year a new chapter awaited us.

  2. 1995

    Growth in Macael

Consolidating our expansion, in 1995 we moved our plant to Macael, a strategic location that let us increase our production capacity. With the arrival of new shareholders, who are still with the company, we strengthened our presence in the market.

Under our own brands, Café La Caribeña and Café Solana, our distribution spread beyond Almería, reaching new provinces such as Murcia, Granada, Málaga, Valladolid and many more.

Our roastery is a reflection of the perfect combination of advanced technology and artisan know-how.
